MANILA (PIA) – The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) have joined forces to promote safe migration and decent work opportunities for Filipino overseas workers.
DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac and ILO Country Director Khalid Hassan met at the DMW Central Office in Mandaluyong City on Monday to discuss collaborative efforts. The meeting focused on ensuring a secure working environment for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) throughout their migration journey.
Cacdac reiterated the DMW’s commitment to supporting ongoing ILO migration projects, including the “Ship to Shore Rights” initiative. This program aims to protect the rights of migrant workers in Southeast Asia’s fishing and seafood processing industries.
The ILO expressed gratitude for the DMW’s contributions to the “Safe Migration and Decent Work for Climate Change Resilience in ASEAN” project. This initiative seeks to enhance labor migration and climate change governance through innovative methods.
This collaboration signifies a shared commitment to safeguarding the welfare and rights of Filipino workers abroad.
The meeting also highlighted the ongoing partnership between the Philippine government and the ILO in addressing the challenges faced by migrant workers, from recruitment to reintegration. (JLN/PIA-NCR)
